Nigel Harris AM - a proven sector leader
Nigel is a highly regarded leader in the not-for-profit sector. He specialises in philanthropy and fundraising, and is well-known for his success in organisational growth and development.
Nigel’s career has spanned over forty years, mostly in executive leadership roles.
He served as Chief Executive Officer of Mater Foundation (Queensland), a position he held for 24 years between 1996 and 2020.
Over this time, Nigel grew Mater Foundation’s annual fundraising revenue from two million to seventy-three million dollars.
He established the Foundation as one of Australia’s largest health charities, becoming a major funder of medical research and clinical services.
Nigel holds a Master of Business Administration, majoring in fundraising, as well as qualifications in public relations and marketing. Nigel is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Nigel has seen the profession of fundraising evolve significantly over the past four decades. He continues to be a significant influencer and innovator in the sector.

- Currently a Director and Deputy Chair of Act for Kids, and Director on the Board of Leukaemia Foundation.
- Currently serving on the Board of the Institute for Sustainable Philanthropy, and Braille House
- Fellow of Fundraising Institute Australia, the Institute of Managers and Leaders.
- Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Certified CEO with the CEO Institute.
- Previously served on the Community Council for Australia and CFRE Boards.
- Recipient of the Harvard Club of Australia – Queensland Chapter, Non-Profit Fellowship Award in 2006.
- Past President of the Rotary Club of Albany Creek and Paul Harris Fellow.
